TN Dept. of Agriculture: Be alert for rise in ‘card skimmers’ at gas pumps
A Tennessee state agency is issuing an alert to consumers to be aware of an increase in fraudulent credit card devices found at gas pumps across the state.
Frequently referred to as credit card skimmers, the state department of agriculture says at least five of these devices have been found at pumps in the last six weeks at various locations across TN. The skimming device can read and store data from the magnetic strip on a credit or debit card, which can then be used to make fraudulent purchases.
TDA is encouraging consumers to carefully examine credit card readers when purchasing gas and if the reader looks different or if it not secure to the display panel, it should be reported to the gas station manager.
