Hamblen, Cocke County Schools receiving grant money for STEM and computer science education expansion
Two East Tennessee School systems are among recipients of nearly $3 million in grant money from the state department of education for aid in computer science and STEM education.
Education officials announced Monday that grant funding totaling around $7 million will be split into two groups, one of which is named the Education Innovation and Research early phase grant, will go to expansion of STEM and computer science education for 20 Tennessee high schools at $4 million, as funding will be decided by a competitive grant process.
The other part of the funding, named the Out-of-School Time Career Pathway Program, will expand STEM and computer science education for five rural school districts, which includes Hamblen County Schools and Cocke County Schools.
