UPDATE: VSP identifies man shot and killed by Bristol, VA Police during incident Tuesday morning

Virginia State Police have identified the man shot and killed by police in Bristol, VA following an incident early Tuesday.

State authorities say Bristol, VA police were called to the Rodeway Inn on Euclid Ave. around 4:30 a.m. after receiving a call from an occupant about gunfire. Officers arrived and encountered Jonathan Kohler, 31, of Bristol, TN in a 1994 Ford Mustang, who was asked to exit his vehicle but reportedly refused repeated commands. Kohler then allegedly drove towards one of the officers, who then shot Kohler.

The Bristol man died of his injuries, and no officers were injured in the incident, which remains under investigation.
