Sullivan County teaches closer to pay increase

Sullivan County teachers are a step closer to seeing a 15% pay raise. The Sullivan County Board of Education unanimously approved to fund the proposed raise using its fund balance. For over a month, discussions and workshops with the county commission, have talked about how the raise could happen while considering potential tax increases. Since the funds will only come from the district’s fund balance, a tax increase will not be necessary. The proposed budget must still be approved by the county commission’s budget committee and the full commission. If approved, the raise would go into effect this fall.
