Bristol VA city leaders meet to discuss Virginia Intermont property after fire
A massive fire that required more than a dozen fire departments to respond to the former Virginia Intermont College campus last Friday, saw city leaders in Bristol, Virginia head into a special called, closed door meeting Saturday morning to discuss what could be done about the property. A meeting agenda said that council members would discuss or consider acquiring the Virginia Intermont property. Council heard from legal counsel, staff members and consultants as they devise a plan to acquire the property from its current owner, U.S. Magis International Education Center. The company reportedly owes Bristol, Virginia more than $400,000 in taxes. Virginia Intermont College closed its doors in 2014 amid financial troubles and the loss of its accreditation. The former campus has sat in disrepair and has recently been plagued by fires suspected to have been set by the cities homeless population.
