CDC data indicates Virginia’s second case of mumps in 2025 at EB Stanley

What could be the second confirmed case of mumps diagnosed in Virginia this year has been logged after a student at EB Stanley Middle School tested positive.
Health services staff has been put on alert and extensive cleaning will be conducted in Abingdon’s classrooms and hallways. School officials are also asking parents to have their children exercise good hygiene by washing their hands.
Based on data compiled every four weeks by the Centers for Disease Control, the EB Stanley case would be added to the state’s first case—a positive test for a student River Road Middle School in Elizabeth City.
