Bristol VA moving forward with “blighted” classification for Former VA Intermont
The Bristol, Virginia City Council moved forward with classifying the former Virginia Intermont property as “blighted.” Council members approved an ordinance that declares the property blighted and increases the real estate tax rate on the property by 5%. A property may be considered blighted if it is structurally unsafe, visually unpleasant, abandoned, or has other issues. It has been about ten years since the former college shut its doors. Funds generated from the tax increase will help offset the costs of increased police patrols and fire department calls to the property.
