Carter County votes to end tourism contract with Chamber then makes new offer
In a nearly 5 hour meeting, Carter County commissioners voted to end their tourism contract with the Chamber of Commerce and instead offer a new one with different terms. The narrow 12-to-11 vote came after nearly two hours of public comment. Almost all comments made, asked commissioners to keep the Chamber of Commerce in charge of tourism. The contract had been in effect since 2016 but will now expire in March. Commissioners voted later in the meeting to offer the chamber a one-year contract with the same terms but would also add a requirement of quarterly reporting. That contract would have to be approved by the chamber’s board.
