CSX provides update on injured contractors

More details have been released about two contractors who were working for CSX in Unicoi County that were injured Wednesday. Both were airlifted by a medical helicopter. The workers were injured during an excavation incident in the area of Unaka Springs Road. CSX says the two contractors were working on the infrastructure restoration efforts along the rail line when they were injured around 1:36 p.m. The contractors were cutting rail north of the Chestoa Pike crossing in Erwin. Both workers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were medically evacuated as a precaution.
