Highway 421 reopens from Johnson County to the TN/NC line

A section of U.S. Highway 421 has reopened in Johnson County. The Tennessee Department of Transportation announced that the section of US 421 between Mountain City and the Tennessee-North Carolina line reopened Wednesday afternoon. The highway had been heavily damaged by flooding from Hurricane Helene in late September. Eight sections across 1.5 miles were destroyed. According to TDOT, US 421, was the first state route under repair contract following Helene.
