Owner of Mountain City long-term care center indicted on 11 charges

The TBI announced the indictment of a Johnson County long-term care facility owner following a nearly year-long investigation.
Wendy Henley is charged with two counts of identity theft, financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult and possession of schedule II, IV and V drugs. A TBI investigation began in June when adult protective services notified the agency of possible criminal activity at Sunset Gardens Assisted Living in Mountain City.
Henley, 47, is accused of using a patient’s insurance benefits card to purchase items for the facility. She also faces charges of child endangerment and reckless endangerment after agents found two juveniles with no ability to provide care placed in charge of looking after 17 patients at the facility. Sunset Gardens was abruptly shut down the following month and patients were either transfered to other homes or placed in the custody of family members.
