Russell County man to serve 19 years for parking lot murder

A man convicted by a jury in October for a deadly shooting in the Lebanon Walmart parking lot will serve a total of 19 years in a Virginia prison.

Dennis Dee Gilbert, 71, had a verbal argument with the victim Zachary Boyd prior to the incident. Court records also showed Gilbert was also charged with brandishing a firearm in Lebanon a week before the murder.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Zach Stoots said the Boyd family called Gilbert a threat to public safety.
