TBI: Financial office worker stole $60,000 from Elizabethton technical center
One of the workers in charge of finances at a Carter County technical institute has been accused of stealing thousands of dollars.
Valerie Carrier, 55, was indicted by a grand jury Monday on one count of theft over $60,000. She turned herself in on Wednesday and was issued a $25,000 bond.
TBI spokesperson Leslie Earhart said in a statement that investigators determined Carrier used her position as financial services coordinator at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology in Elizabethton to funnel the dollars beginning in February 2018.
Earhart noted the discrepancies that exposed the missing funds were in an account involving refunds to student accounts. Carrier has been terminated from the facility.
