Triple digit heat triggers highest TVA power peak for 2024

TVA Vice President of Power Operations Aaron Melda said the strenuous loads placed on their power grid in the winter gave them valuable information to handle customer demand.

New investments at coal, gas, and hydro units paid off as TVA hit its largest output of the year with more than 31,000 megawatts transmitted as of 4 p.m. EST on Thursday due to heat index figures in triple digits.

The agency said their systems were secure despite the growing energy demand. The highest TVA summertime peak was in 2007 with 33,482 megawatts.
