TVA to raise Boone Lake water levels beginning today
The Tennessee Valley Authority will start to raise the Boone Lake water levels this week as the more than six year repair project begins to wind down.
Officials will be raising the levels by about two feet per week, and by around mid-summer, lake pool levels are expected to be at or near the usual summer pool levels prior to 2014. Crews have been working to repair the Boone Dam since a sinkhole was discovered in October of 2014, and items like an underground cutoff wall have been constructed to prevent erosion and seepage along the dam’s embankment.
TVA says the next major step includes the construction of a flood wall, and they hope to have the lake fully operational by next July.
