UPDATE: Wanted man stopped by spike strips in Smyth County and arrested
A wanted suspect who shot at and eluded deputies in Bristol, Tennessee on Monday is now jailed for attempted capital murder.
Road spikes were able to stop and crash the stolen truck driven by Elihu Martin in the Chilhowie area of Smyth County just after 3 a.m. Friday, according to an update issued by Sheriff Chip Shuler. Martin, 46, pointed a rifle at pursuing officers during the early morning pursuit. He fired a pistol at policemen during Monday’s chase.
Martin also has an existing involuntary manslaughter charge. His additional charges in Smyth County include display of a firearm, reckless handle of a weapon, receiving stolen goods, and four counts of identity fraud.
