US Nitrogen malfunction Sunday: No threat to health or environment
A statement from US Nitrogen in Greene County says a malfunction during the startup of the nitric acid plant at the facility Sunday morning prompted a “more prominent emission” than usual. A statement from the companies owner, Austin Powder Company, said the plant was immediately shut down upon discovery of the malfunction. The company said in a statement that the emission caused no harm to human health or the environment. Workers are currently investigating the cause of the malfunction.
